Florida residents who want to vote in the Nov. 3 general election have until today to register.

The deadline, commonly known as the state’s “book-closing” date, falls 29 days before Election Day. The Florida Department of State lists Oct. 5 as the official registration deadline for the 2026 general election.

Voters can register online through the state’s RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov portal. The state also allows eligible residents to submit voter registration applications through county supervisors of elections and other designated voter registration agencies.

Mailed applications must be postmarked by the registration deadline.

Florida’s online voter registration system also allows existing voters to update their registration information. Voters can use the Department of State’s voter-status portal to confirm their registration, while polling locations, sample ballots and vote-by-mail ballot information are available through county supervisors of elections.

The Nov. 3 election includes federal, state and local races across Florida.

Today’s registration cutoff is the first of several important dates leading up to Election Day.

The deadline to request that a vote-by-mail ballot be mailed is 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22. Florida law requires those requests to go through the voter’s county supervisor of elections.

Mandatory early voting begins Saturday, Oct. 24. State law requires early voting for elections containing state or federal races, and counties must offer it during the eight-day mandatory period. Counties can also provide additional early-voting days beginning as early as Oct. 19.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Voters using vote-by-mail should note an important distinction between registration and ballot-return rules: While a mailed voter-registration application can meet today’s deadline based on its postmark, a completed vote-by-mail ballot generally must arrive at the county supervisor of elections office by 7 p.m. on Election Day. A postmark alone does not satisfy that deadline for most voters.

Florida residents can check their registration status through the Department of State and contact their county supervisor of elections for precinct-specific information.

Notable dates: Oct. 5 is the voter-registration deadline; Oct. 22 is the deadline to request that a vote-by-mail ballot be mailed; mandatory early voting begins Oct. 24; and Election Day is Nov. 3.
