Republican U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna enters the general election with more than twice the campaign cash of Democratic challenger Leela Gray, although federal filings show the gap in their fundraising is not as straightforward.

Luna reported $1.47 million in cash on hand as of July 29, compared with $683,295 for Gray. The Republican incumbent reported $3.23 million in total receipts, while Gray brought in $1.22 million.

Those totals cover substantially different periods. Luna’s filing stretches back to Jan. 1, 2025, while Gray began reporting Feb. 1 of this year. Her campaign committee registered with the Federal Election Commission two days later.

Luna also received about $1.21 million in transfers from other authorized committees. Gray reported $1,363 in transfers.

Looking strictly at contributions narrows the difference. Luna reported $2.01 million in contributions during the 19-month period, including $1.91 million from individuals. Gray reported $1.21 million in contributions over roughly six months, including $1.14 million from individuals.

The campaigns have also spent at different rates. Luna reported $1.89 million in disbursements through July 29, while Gray reported $539,774. Gray entered the final months of the campaign with about 56% of what she had taken in still in the bank. Luna began the cycle with $131,416 already on hand.

Luna is seeking a third term after first winning the Pinellas-based congressional seat in 2022. Her principal campaign committee has been registered with the FEC since September 2019, giving her an established fundraising operation entering this election cycle.

Gray is making her first run for the seat and built her campaign treasury this year. Her committee reported $945,956 in itemized individual contributions and another $198,220 in unitemized contributions through July 29. She also received $70,500 from other political committees and loaned her campaign $7,000.

Luna reported $779,884 in itemized individual contributions and $1.13 million in unitemized contributions. Another $103,000 came from other political committees.

That leaves Luna with a substantial $790,829 more available campaign cash than Gray entering the general-election stretch.
