Clearwater resident Sam Wilson announced Thursday he is running for Clearwater City Council Seat 5, launching his campaign with an endorsement from U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna.
A congressional staffer, Wilson framed his run around affordability and accountability at City Hall. In a statement announcing his candidacy, he said he intends to focus on easing the property tax burden on families, maintaining and improving infrastructure and revitalizing downtown “into a safe, prosperous area that honors our community’s character,” while strengthening communication between city leaders and residents.
“I’m running for City Council to protect the Clearwater we love for the next generation,” Wilson said.
Luna’s endorsement was included in the announcement.
“I am happy to give my full support and endorsement to Sam Wilson for Clearwater City Council,” Luna said, adding that Wilson understands local challenges such as housing costs, protecting beaches and supporting small businesses while keeping government transparent and accountable.
Wilson is described as a lifelong Clearwater resident. For the past four years, he has worked with local, state and federal leaders as District Director to a U.S. Representative, assisting residents with navigating government services.
His background also includes involvement with Calvary Christian Church, volunteering with the Sheriff’s Youth Ranch and the Cajun Navy, and serving on the board of the Clearwater Housing Authority.
