Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco announced he will run for Senate District 21 shortly after Sen. Ed Hooper revealed plans to retire from politics before the end of his term. Hooper said he intends to step away two years early, creating a vacancy in the Pinellas- and Pasco-based district. Because the resignation comes before the end of the term, the seat will be filled through a special election.
