DeSantis signs property tax measure ahead of 2026 ballot
Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed legislation outlining how local governments would implement a proposed expansion of Florida’s homestead property tax exemption if voters approve a constitutional amendment this November. The proposal would increase the non-school homestead exemption to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028, pending approval from at least 60% of voters. The new law also limits how much additional property tax revenue cities and counties can collect as property values rise, making it more difficult to exceed the rollback tax rate.
