Former mayoral candidate and former St. Petersburg NAACP leader Maria Scruggs has endorsed Charlie Crist for mayor after previously saying she planned to stay out of the race. Scruggs said the endorsement followed conversations with Crist about priorities including opportunity hubs in recreation centers, wages for working people and investment in neighborhoods that have waited longest for it. Crist faces Mayor Ken Welch in the Nov. 3 runoff.
