Jacques introduces the Shane Jones Act

The Shane Jones Act, introduced by Florida Representative Berny Jacques, seeks to penalize local law enforcement agencies that do not cooperate with federal immigration authorities, directing collected fines to victims of crimes committed by undocumented immigrants. Named after Shane Jones, a U.S. Air Force veteran killed in a 2019 crash involving an undocumented driver, the bill also allows families to sue local governments that enacted sanctuary policies linked to such incidents. The proposed legislation emphasizes accountability for local jurisdictions that hinder federal immigration enforcement.
