Castor announces $38.6 million for Tampa Bay transit upgrades
Representative Kathy Castor has announced $38,617,390 in new federal transit grants for the Tampa Bay area, awarded through the Federal Transit Administration. The funds will support HART’s purchase of 33 compressed natural gas buses and expand its vocational training and apprenticeship programs. PSTA will receive funding to install a new emergency generator that keeps electric buses charged and transit service operating during power outages. Castor said the investments will improve mobility and expand access to jobs, schools and health care for families across the region. HART and PSTA leaders said the grants strengthen reliability and resilience for riders who depend on public transit every day.
